My studio swallows. Swallows, barn swallows specifically, have been a prominent part of my adult life. We would watch them every evening at sunset on the porch where I grew up. They would bob and weave around us, accepting us. They are very social birds and thrive on their community. As I move around, living in Wyoming and now more full time in Texas I have seen them everywhere I go. Camping, living in canyon walls. And I even see the them on summer nights in the mountains. It’s fascinating and makes me think perhaps I am like a swallow too, flying around all over the place but always rooted in my community - that happens to be sprinkled all over the place.

Every day is Earth day 🤍 I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting the Boerne chapter of the Native plant society of Texas @npsot this weekend. Ever since moving to the hill country I have fallen in love with the native plants that survive such harsh conditions like drought and heat. The more I learn the more I realize how crucial these plants are to our global ecosystem. It’s hard to watch developers mow down hundred year old oaks and rip away at the earth to plant non-native grasses with HOAs that promote green grass lawns giving native plants no chance to seed and succeed. I am still on a native plant journey but let me tell you, they are so much easier to keep alive once you have them established. I urge you- especially Texas residents- to consider the benefits of native plants to our migratory butterflies and our aquifers that are being bled dry for golf courses and front lawns. Look around, explore nature, and consider what you can do for our wonderful Mother Earth today and every day. 🤍
