We spent our workdays together
A blessing through and through
Everywhere we would go
You would simply go too

When it was time for fetch or a walk
You’d nudge with a stick or a ball
You’d guide us along your namesake roads
Limestone caliche that matched your brilliant fur shawl

Among the wildflowers and oaks
You kept our hearts earthbound
Staying present, here and now
The wind and crunches the only sound
.
With nose upturned you’d smell the air
with curiosity and bliss
This and so much more
are life’s simple pleasures we will dearly miss

My studio swallows. Swallows, barn swallows specifically, have been a prominent part of my adult life. We would watch them every evening at sunset on the porch where I grew up. They would bob and weave around us, accepting us. They are very social birds and thrive on their community. As I move around, living in Wyoming and now more full time in Texas I have seen them everywhere I go. Camping, living in canyon walls. And I even see the them on summer nights in the mountains. It’s fascinating and makes me think perhaps I am like a swallow too, flying around all over the place but always rooted in my community - that happens to be sprinkled all over the place.

I have always grappled with high highs and low lows, but I have never liked what I create in my low points and it leaves me unbelievably frustrated. Curious if other artists find themselves in this mix sometimes?
